Brilliant Benchmark Performance of the 1st Batch at RGUKT: The fruits of the academic excellence created under the leadership of Prof Raja kumar resulted out in to excellent performance by the university students right from the first batch itself (despite starting with the annual intake of 6000), in many ways. Here are a few examples. Excellent performance in GATE -2014 with no extra coaching: The 1st batch students appeared in GATE-2014, in their final year BTech with no scope for extra or outside coaching. Out of the 950 respondents in a survey conducted, more than 650 students claimed that they got qualified. Some students secured All India Ranks 8, 20, 25, 30,...., , a remarkable performance by any standards. Many students joined the PG programmes in IIT’s and public sector industries after completing their BTech based on the GATE performance. Perhaps, no other institute including the NIT’s / university in the country every got this type of performance with its first batch. Un-heard of performance in Service Commission Recruitments: The students of the first two batches showed outstanding performance which is unheard of the in the country in public service commission recruitments. To cite an example, 272 students from two classes of Civil Engg (2014 and 2015) of the Basara campus alone reported that they got selected for Asst Executive / Asst Engineer positions in the TNPSC recruitments during 2016-17. Needless to mention that such an excellence is not heard from any university or institute in the country. This one example is good enough to illustrate the truly exceptional human resources even two classes of a campus of RGUKT could provide the state with. Brilliant Performance in UGC NET (JRF) Despite that the number of candidates appeared is extremely small since it is not very appropriate for, the performance in UGC NET (JRF) was extremely good and one student got All India 2nd rank. Highest Number of Awards in the NASA Competition: As many as, 54 students won prizes (highest by any institution in the world) and laurels in the design contests conducted by NASA Ames Research Center, USA. 34 of the students attended the NASA conferences held at San Diego, USA and received their prizes. Excellent Academic Performance: The university has graduated over 5,400 of its first batch of students in June 2014 with 33% of them securing distinction and another 65% of them getting first class. An amazing 1300 students earned a Minor in the first batch and perhaps it is the highest ever in the country including all the IIT’s, in any year, so far. Despite that it was the first batch and that the university didn’t have history yet, as many as 1000 students got placed through the campus placement cells. There were many more laurels won including, TWITMINER contest of the CSA, IISc, Bangalore in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and the Ramanujam prize. In view of relinquishing the position of VC in 2015, more studies on student successes could not be conducted personally by the VC and no other reports have been available.
