About us

The group is basically working on the development of packaging solutions using macromolecules. Recent works includes enhancement of mechanical and barrier properties of biodegradable films along with antimicrobial film development by solution casting. As a primary packaging nano coating is being developed and application on fruits is being experimented.

Extraction of bioactive compounds (flavonoids/Phenolic) is another research area on which the group is focussing. These bioactive extracts can be further used in food for enhancing functionality. Process optimisation and mathematical modelling to simulate the bio processes along with validation is being done by the group.

Food engineering has a pivotal role in improving rural agriculture. Keeping that in mind the group is also in the process of developing rural low cost technologies to offer sustainable growth to the rural community.

Research area

 Food Packaging and Storage Studies

  • Food even if processed in the best way demands proper packaging and storage to enhance its shelf life. Every food needs a customised packaging solution because of its specific composition, and characteristics. Therefore, developing bio film and edible coating is another venture of this lab.

Microwave Assisted Extraction of Bioactive compounds

  • Microwave assisted extraction has several advantage over the conventional extraction in terms of increasing efficiency and shorter processing time. This is very helpful in extracting oil from low fat bearing solid matrix or bioactive compounds from plant cells. Research is going on to further optimise the process and to eliminate the drawback so that large scale production is possible.
