Technology Development

1.

Development of a Camera based Measurement System for Determining the Length of Cut of Fluted Ingots at Durgapur Steel Plant, SAIL.

This had been project offered by the R&D Center for Iron and Steel (RDCIS), SAIL at Ranchi to the Faculty Entrepreneurship Company CATSS of which the applicant is a partner. It involved development of complete hardware and software specification for the above system as well as development of the complete software for image acquisition, preprocessing, processing and results display. Final field trial and commissioning had been done.

2.

Multi-Sensor Based Condition Monitoring of Industrial Processes using Sensor Fusion, Intelligent Signal Processing and Detection Theory.

Work was first done under the project Multi-Sensor based On-Line Condition Monitoring of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems, sponsored by Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India. Developed a tool condition monitoring scheme for face milling using multi-sensor fusion and ANN based estimators. Implemented the same in hardware and software and tested in laboratory and industrial environments. Subsequently work was also done on monitoring of the Sintering process for iron making under a Govt. of India project.

3.

Energy Optimising Control Strategy for Variable Air-Volume Air-conditioning Systems.

This was done under the TDM project on VAV Air-conditioning sponsored by the Planning Commission and Johnson Controls (I) Ltd as well as the Project on Building Automation Systems sponsored by MHRD, Govt. of India. An Indian patent Application has been granted (Patent No. 242236).

4.

Behavioral Modelling for Rapid Prototyping of VLSI Circuits.

This work was carried out jointly with Analog Designers, Test Designers and Design Managers of the National Semiconductor, Santa Clara, USA. The work involves development of Behavioral Models of Analog and Mixed Signal VLSI Circuits for use by Designers in the initial phases of design for circuit debugging as well as for test designers for concurrent test development. Work had been carried out both at methodological and developmental levels using Verilog-A and the “Virtuouso” design environment from Cadence.

5.

Fault Tolerant Actuation and Control and Target Tracking for Indian Aerospace Applications.

Work is going on the above aspects in close association with ISRO and DRDO. Both electro-hydraulic and electromechanical actuators are being considered. Work on autopilot reconfiguration is being carried out. For target tracking, RF seeker based homing guidance and radar based command guidance schemes had been investigated.

6.

On-line monitoring of Digital VLSI Circuits and Development of a CAD tool

This work was carried out under the aegis of the Advanced VLSI Design Laboratory at IIT Kharagpur. One version of a chip has been designed, fabricated and tested. A CAD tool christened OLMMax had been developed for related designs.

7. Integrated Vehicle Health Monitoring for Automotive Applications
This was carried out under the General Motors Collaborative Research Lab on Electronic Control and Software. A US patent application is published jointly by GM and IIT Kharagpur. The work is currently being continued under Govt. of India funding and with Tata Motors supports.

8.

Verification of Analog and Mixed Signal Circuits

This is currently ongoing under funding from Semiconductor Research Corporation, USA. It is being mentored by Freescale Semiconductor, Intel corporation etc.
