| The Medical Image Analysis and Machine Intelligence (MIAMI) Research Group aims to advance the application of cutting-edge technology to the biomedical fields. The group helps clinicians by developing intelligent image processing and decision making algorithms that provides quick and reliable advice. These algorithms draw their strengths both from a pool of proven medical knowledge and the accuracy of modern computers. MIAMI ’s research focus on important medical issues such as timely prostate cancer diagnosis, preventative measures against coronary disease, etc. |

MIAMI brings together medical expertise from University of Western Ontario and engineering proficiency from University of Waterloo to form a united approach to improve traditional applications and explore new ones. Through direct communication and mutual assistance, the two groups of experts are bridging the knowledge gaps that have previously hindered proper interdisciplinary research. This collaboration also hopes to train a new generation of engineers who will promote this cooperative research spirit.
