Security and Privacy in Online Social Networks (1 Credit)

Course Objectives:

This is a micro credit course offered as part of the SPARC project titled "Where the Mind is Without Fear - Developing Enablers for Safe Communication in Online Social Networks". The project is a collaborative work between IIT Kharagpur and Purdue University, USA

This course will train the students on the fundamental aspects of security and privacy in online social networks (OSNs). It will not only benefit Computer Science and Engineering students, but also students from other disciplines having interest in security and privacy. The primary objectives of the course are as follows:
  1. Help the students learn the fundamentals of security and privacy in general and online social networks in particular.
  2. Building capability among the participants on how to identify security and privacy vulnerabilities and take appropriate measures so that OSNs can be effectively used without any risk of falling prey to cyber predators.
  3. Providing exposure to practical problems and their solutions in the field of OSN security and privacy so that the participants can develop applications that meet standard guidelines.
