Medial Circle Representation and Medial Sphere Represenattion using octagonal distances

The use of octagonal distances for reprsenting binary objects in 2D & 3D has been explored in the form of Medial Circle Reprsentation & Medial Surface Representation . The reprsentation scheme has several advantages over existing schemes such as Quad(Oct) Tree, Runlength EncodingD etc. It has been shown that computation of geometric transformation, projection and contour (surface normals) takes less time in the case of MCR & MSR. It has also been shown that the quality of rendering of 3D objects improves if one uses MSR by octagonal distances. A geometric analysis has also been carried out for finding the best octagonal distance closer to Euclidean metric in 2D as well as in 3D.

Fractal Scene Synthesiser

A system for fractal synthesis of natural scenes is under development (in SGI platform). It is a sort of multilevel editor and simulator where there are features to compose small images into a complete one. The elementary images used in the composition can either be generated by a recursive definition of an Iterated Function System or be simple geometric shapes. The editor has a special GUI for graphically expressing affine transformations from which their mathematical forms are computed.

Analysis of echo-cardiogram images

New algorithms for processing echo-cardiogram images have been developed. A contour detection algorithm delineates the cavities in a frame of echo-cardiogram. The dynamic features of cardiac cycles are also estimated by analysing the motions of cavity walls. A video model for storage and archival of echo-cardiogram images is also developed subsequently.
