Prerequistes - Elasticity Theory, Basic Finite Element Analysis, Basic Structural Dynamics, Matlab based Finite Element Programming.
100% Class attendance is a must (excluding medical reasons).

Syllabus:
1.Introduction to Different Beam Theories and Basic Approximation of 2D Continua, Elements of Calculus of Variations.
2.Classical Plate Theory - Statics and Dynamics.
3.Shear Deformable Plates - Reissner-Mindlin Plate Theory, Concept of Rotatry Intertia.
4. Nonlinear Theory - von Kármán Plates, Membrane and Bending Coupling.
5.Finite Elements for Plates - DKT elements, Shear Locking.
6.Shell Structures as an Extension of Plates, Concepts Gaussian Curvature, Different types of Shells.
7.Linear Shell Analysis - Cylindrical and Spherical Shells with Finite Element Approximations.
Syllabus for Mid-semester and End-semester Examination will be declared in the class.
Evaluation :
1.30 Marks for Assignments and Class Tests (Extreamly Important)
2.30 Marks for Mid-semester Examination.
3.40 Marks for End-semester Examination.
