Advanced Facility for Research in Reliability Engineering

Mandate of the facility:

To carry out advanced research in systems reliability engineering with focus on engineering structures, piping and pressure vessel, reactor containment, electronic/electrical systems and software reliability. The proposed facility should be a place to generate and exchange knowledge involving national and international experts, BARC and other DAE scientists, IIT faculty and students.

Development of Partial Safety Factors for Containment Design under Seismic Loading

Software Reliability, led by Prof. R. Mall.

Passive System Reliability

Development of system reliability models required for probabilistic safety assessment

Expert elicitation method in risk assessment

Up gradation of in-house thermal hydraulics safety analysis computer codes with built in uncertainty analysis.

Project Positions

Applications are sought for the position of Consultant (up to Rs 25,000 pm) and Senior Project Officer (up to Rs. 18000 p.m.) in Risk and Reliability of Infrastructure Systems. Candidates must have a Master’s/ Doctoral level degree in Civil/ Mechanical/ Aerospace/ Engineering or in Mathematics/Statistics. Excellent knowledge in Reliability, along with reasonable knowledge in Mechanics and/or Structural Engineering, is required. Excellent computer programming skills is essential. Familiarity with the nuclear power industry and a good publishing record will be given preference.
